We are excited to add Krysta to Texas Select coaching staff. Krysta has an extensive background in volleyball beginning with finishing 3rd at Junior Olympics with Austin Juniors in 2001. She then moved to Virginia and attended James Madison University on a full volleyball scholarship. She was a 4-year starting setter/outside/right-side hitter winning awards such as Rookie of the Year 2002, Second Team All-Conference 2003, First Team All-Conference 2004, 2005. After graduating from James Madison she traveled overseas to play professional volleyball for Germany and Austria. After recently returning from Europe, she coached middle school volleyball at John Cooper School and is employed with The Woodlands Sports Medicine Center. Krysta has a BS in Sports Management and minor in Business.
Coach Charvette Brown-Training Director/15 National
Charvette is entering her 5th season coaching for Texas Select. She has a strong volleyball background, with 15 years playing experience and 7 years of coaching. She is a 1996 graduate of the state winning, 42-0 Cypress Creek High School volleyball team. She played for two years at Southern University-Baton Rouge where she was the team captain for two seasons. She then finished her last two years at Texas Southern University. Some of her accomplishments include four time First -Team All-SWAC, Freshman of the year, three time team MVP, and two time conference tournament MVP. She was also ranked number eight in NCAA Division I ranking for kills per game and named the Southern University female athlete of the year. Charvette has a BA in Sociology with a minor in History. She is also the Head Volleyball Coach at Westfield High School and is a Impact Certified coach. Charvette is married to Germaine and has two children Ariana and Tiarra.
Coach Jim "Smoki" Richardson- Training Director/18 National
Jim is one of Texas Select founders and is the Training Director. He has 14 years of coaching experience and a extensive coaching resume. Some of which include being ranked in the Top Ten in the Lone Star Region in 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006. He has also had five teams qualify for the Texas Championship Series. In 2002, his 15 Molten qualified for Junior Olympics and finished 13the in the nation.That team also won Tampa Bay National Qualifier. In 2001, his 15's team was ranked 6th in Lone Star, and were West Side and Houston Power League Champions. They also finished 5th at the Tampa Bay National Qualifier, 9th Place at Lone Star Qualifier, and ended the season with a record of 115-34 games and 36-8 match play. Jim was the Junior Varsity coach and Varsity Assistant at John Cooper School from 2000-2006. Some of his accomplishments were Junior Varsity District Champs in 2000, 2001, and 2004. In 2004, varsity finished third place in SPC Div. II Tournament, and were Co-Champions in 2001. He is ASEP Certified and an Impact Certified Coach. Jim is married to Sondra and they have two children.
Coach Rotavia Garvie- 17 National
Ro is entering her 4th season with Texas Select. Ro has 15 years of playing experience, and over 5 years coaching experience. Rotavia is a 1996 graduate of Katy High School where she received all district honors. She then when on to play at Payne College in Augusta, Georgia on a volleyball and basketball scholarship. Some of her awards were Conference Player of the Year and Team MVP. After two successful seasons, Ro transferred to Texas Southern University and helped them win two conference champions for two consecutive seasons. Ro has a B.S in Kinesiology and currently coaching volleyball, basketball, and track at West Memorial Junior High.
Texas Select is proud to welcome Michelle to our coaching staff. Michelle is a Native Houstonian and has a long history of playing volleyball. She played several years prior to high school. Michelle attended Jersey Village High School where she played as a DS/Libero and Outside Hitter for 4 years. Her Senior year she placed in the top 10 District Stats for CFISD for digs/receiving and service aces. Through Michelle's High School years, she also played club volleyball for Willowbrook Sports Complex as a DS has numerous metals and trophies, including All Tournament Team Player. Michelle went on to play College volleyball for Concordia University in Austin, TX. as a starting Freshman DS/Libero and is currently working on her Degree in Kinesiology/Sports Medicine in Houston.
